1. What are the different types of health insurance plans (and which is right for me)?
There are HMOs, PPOs, EPOs, POS plans, and High Deductible Health Plans (HDHPs). There are plans on and off the Marketplace. I can help you understand and find different options to meet your needs.
2. How much does health insurance cost?
Many people qualify for tax credit based on their income. I can show what you qualify for.
3. Are my doctors/hospitals/prescriptions covered by this plan?
I have the tools to make sure your doctors/hospital/prescriptions are covered by the plan you choose.
4. What is Open Enrollment and when can I enroll in a health insurance plan?
Open Enrollment is the period November 1 to December 15 for a start date of January 1 or January 15 for a February 1 start date. I will take care of the enrollment for you.
5. What is a "qualifying life event" and how does it allow me to get health insurance outside Open Enrollment?
Loss of Coverage, household changes, change in residence, change in income, and leaving incarceration are some of the qualifying life events.
6. What does health insurance actually cover?
That depends on the plan. A marketplace qualified plans has Essential Health Benefits that are federally mandated for services like preventive care, emergency care, mental health, prescription drugs, maternity and newborn care, pediatric services, laboratory services, and Rehabilitative and Habilitative Services and Devices.
7. Can I get financial help to pay for health insurance (subsidies, tax credits)?
Yes, based on your income level.
8. What happens if I have a pre-existing condition?
While federal law (ACA) prevents discrimination based on pre-existing conditions.
9. How do I choose the best health insurance plan for my needs/family?
After a fact finding call, I’ll research options for you and then present 3 plans side by side for your review.
10. Where can I buy health insurance?
You can enroll via the marketplace (healthcare.gov), the carriers or brokers like myself. I you want the tax credits, you need enroll on healthcare.gov or have me do it for you.
