Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: What is the difference between HMO, PPO, and HDHP plans? (And which one is best for me?)

A: HMO is cheapest but restrictive; PPO is pricey but flexible; HDHP has low premiums but high initial costs before the plan pays for services. The best option depends on your situation. Contact me to help you determine which is better for you.

Q: How do deductibles, premiums, and out-of-pocket maximums work together?

A: Premiums are what you pay every month, the deductible is what you pay before insurance starts helping, and the out‑of‑pocket maximum is the most you’ll pay in a year.

Q: How much life insurance do I actually need, and what’s the difference between Term and Whole Life?

A: You usually need enough life insurance to cover your income for several years, your debts, and your family’s major expenses. Term Life is cheaper coverage for a set number of years, while Whole Life is much more expensive but lasts your entire life and builds cash value. Think in terms of rent vs owning a home.

Q: What is the difference between an HSA and an FSA, and can I have both?

A: An HSA is a savings account you own and keep forever, while an FSA is “use‑it‑or‑lose‑it” each year, and you can only have both if your FSA is a limited‑purpose one that covers dental and vision.

Q: How do I know if my specific doctors and medications are "in-network"?

A: These are some of the things I can help you find with my access to most of the carriers.

Q: Can I get help enrolling in a health insurance plan?

A: Yes, we assist with enrollment, plan comparisons, and questions about benefits. We ensure that you understand your options before making a decision.

Q: Are your services free to use?

A: Yes, working with Millcreek Insurance Advisors costs you nothing. We are paid by the insurance companies, so there is no extra fee for our help.

Q: Is supplemental insurance (like accident, critical illness, or hospital indemnity) worth the extra cost?

Supplemental insurance can be worth it if a surprise injury or illness would seriously strain your budget, but if you already have strong savings and good main coverage, the extra cost often isn’t necessary.

Q: Can I change my insurance benefits outside of the Open Enrollment period? (Life Events)

A: Yes — you can change your benefits outside Open Enrollment only if you have a qualifying life event, like getting married, having a baby, losing other coverage, or moving, which gives you a short special enrollment window to update your insurance.

Q: Are dental and vision insurance typically included, or do I need to buy them separately?

A: Dental and vision are usually not included in regular health insurance, so most people need to buy them separately unless their employer bundles them together.

Q: What is the difference between short-term and long-term disability, and how much of my income do they cover?

Shortterm disability covers you for a few weeks to months, while longterm disability covers you for years or even until retirement, and both typically replace about 50–70% of your income, depending on the plan.
